Holiday with newborn - within few hours of London

Hello, does anyone have any suggestions for a nice cottage or other self-catering place dh and I could rent for a few days with a newborn? It would need to be within a few hours drive from central London, so somewhere like Devon, Cornwall, Kent, Sussex, Anglia etc, either near the sea or near some nice villages for sightseeing. As we will be stuck inside quite a bit with the baby, we would want somewhere that is really nice to be in.

Have you looked at the National Trust properties? They are quite characterful and come in all sizes.
Another option would be a hotel with baby listening facilities and a restaurant. My friend, who has much more money than me, stayed at the Ritz in Brighton with her new born - but that is more of a weekend thing I suppose.

Try Lanhams self catering in St Ives. It's lovely down there and the weather is usually mild. They have a website St Ives Holidays which is really useful.
