Hi Ladies,

I am heading to Dominican with 5 & 2/12 year old in June and I am beiginning to wish we had booked something a little closer to home :( I am really looking forward to the holiday at the other end but am really worrying about the flight. My 2 1/2 year old can be a bit of a nightmare and I am wondering how on earth I am ging to keep him contained/entertained on an 8 hr flight. And on top of all that I am terrified of flying. Eek! Our fight leave at 11am so I know he will be likely to have an nap 1 -2 hrs, which will be great. I am also worrying about the airport at the other end. I have heard its basically a shed, does anyone know?? Or hotel is only a 15/20 min transfer from the airport, so that will be a god send after a long flight. The flight back is a night flight so that should be easier IF the boys sleep!

Any tips/info would be much appriciated!

Thank you in advance! x x x

They usually have films or cartoons you can watch on long flights, so that should take care of some of it, if that gets boring, colouring stuff, snacks, sleep, take a couple of books and read stories, you'll be amazed how quickly the flight goes!

Not sure which airport you are flying into but one of them is quite new, paid for by Shakira and Julio Iglesias, very nice.
We have taken dd twice and she has had DV both time so take plenty of nappies/wet wipes if you are still using them,t hey are mega expensive out there. Shower gel was £5!!
We also took a cab to the hotel as the transfer coach took forever with all the drop offs, we also took one on the way back for the 20 min journey as it would have been over an hour an hanging around the airport for 3 hours.
Where are you staying?

The Dominicans love children so you will have a great time, they are also very poor and i left all of dd clothes and toiletries.

i did give dd a sedative as she was a nightmare traveller but it made her hyperactive instead. i also took rehydration salts etc for the DV.

Hi Hifi,

Thanks for your reply. We are staying at the Iberstar in Puerto Plata. Its on the north side of the Island. Which part did you say?? Thats a shame DD had DV both times :( would it put you going off again?? What age is she? How was she on the flight??

I am really looking forward to the holiday, just worried about the flight. I am scarred of flying so thats making everything seem worse than it probably is!

we were on the north side both times, would definately go again. dd was 21 months the first time and 2.9 the second.
she was a nightmare the first time going over but dh and i managed to cope. i always take a portable dvd player now, have another dd now and they will both sit and watch for a couple of hours, colouring books and plenty of snacks seem to while the hours away.play doh also does the trick.
dd2 is 2.3 and we went 12 hours at xmas,ok going on night flight and comming back she was ok for about 6 of those.
can your partner manage the little one and you the edlest if you are frightened of flying?
