Going to Filey, Yorkshire in 2 weeks. What's good for 7 adults and a 7mo?

There'll be the 7 of us plus DD who is 7 1/2 months. We'll have 2 cars so can do things together or separately.

We had thought of a general visit to York and a trip to the sea side (weather permitting). What else can we do?

Also any nice reasonably priced places to eat?

Thanks [csmile]

Go to Ask for lunch in York - most amazing venue! Betty's for afternoon tea?

Sowerby Hall just north of Bridlington is nice, gardens and a small zoo. Go to Spurn Point for the wow factor of how wild and remote it is.

Filey beach is lovely. Walk to end of the brigg you might see seals. Go to Castle Howard for a Brideshead moment, can always do just grounds & take own picnic. Consider drive to Whitby - harbour, narrow streets, ruined abbey & chanel dracula. Magpie cafe regularly in top3 fish n chips in UK.

Lots of good pubs in villages (not doing microwave specials!).

I live in whitby- its a nice day out, but try and avoid weekends its too busy. there is sealife centre at scarborough-get cheap tickets from tourist info centre, there are steam train journeys-from pickering/whitby, goathland is near which is/was heartbeat country.there is flamingoland near pickering, eden camp too...

Saltire · 04/05/2011 12:55

Eedn camp is good and accesible for buggies too. or the Rail Museum in York ( it's free). or just the beaches. We stayed at Primrose valley a few years ago and did a day at the beach at Whitby, one at Filey, one at Bridlington and one at Scarborough. Cheap days out at the beach Grin

Visit the Sea Life Centre in Scarborough, then leave the car there, take the minature railway to Peasholm Park, lovely view of the sea and beach. In the park go on a boat ride, eat at the Glass House Bistro, then take the minature railway back to your car. That's one day out sorted for you. We did this last week and had a great time!

I think we may need a fortnight!
I have a sling which is comfy enough for a few hours so we can do plenty of walking! Smile

Check the tide times before walking along Filey Brigg though. A friend of mine nearly got caught out the other day.

Playdale Farm is good value for money, it's not too far from Flamingo Land if you like rides and a zoo, Peasholm Park is nice, we've travelled to The Deep at Hull which is 100 times better than the Sealife Centre and much more value for money. Filey beach is lovely and fish and chips from the Brown Room are unbeatable. The beach at Hunmanby Gap is lovely and quiet if you are there during a busy spell and the beachside cafe there does nice snacks and drinks. Flamborough Head to see the lighthouse and the sea birds is a nice afternoon too. Get the visitors guide when you arrive as there are usually plenty of money off vouchers to make it worth your while.
