Orvieto/Arezzo

We're going to be staying near Arezzo for a couple of weeks this summer. Can anyone help with a couple of questions, please?

  1. Supermarkets - where, which, when open?
  2. We plan to stop overnight in Orvieto on the way - can anyone recommend a good hotel/b&b?

Thanks all!

Supermarkets are generally on the outskirts of towns. Can't remember exactly for Arezzo and Orvieto but they will be well signed. They are usually open 7 days a week, but close at lunchtime on a Sunday. Don't know about places to stay near Orvieto as we only went there on day trips. You could try looking for an agriturismo?

Arezzo has a huge CoOp Hypermarket on the outskirts. Some supermarkets, ekven the huge ones, close for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

Orvieto is a gorgeous town. Great food and wine. I suggest posting on the trip advisor "orvieto" forum for up to date hotel/restaurant advice. Have TA a lot this year for holidays and I love getting responses from people who actually live there! Hope you get some time to explore the town, I remember the church in the centre is incredible, and I am not particularly interested in churches.

Thanks all! It's always anxiety-inducing arriving somewhere on a Saturday and not knowing where you will find somewhere to sell you food for Sunday!

We stayed in this agriturismo a couple of years ago. It's just outside Orvieto and has stunning views and delicious food (and wine!). I would definitely recommend it. Have a fabulous time - it's a beautiful part of Italy.
