Southend or Walton or somewhere else?

I'm meeting a friend who lives in Chelmsford. I live by J 24 of the M25. Southend would be closer but would Walton be that much better? Or is there somewhere else you would recommend? It's for tomorrow (thursday) and we have dd and ds each, age range 6-9.

TIA

what about old macdonalds farm or king georges park in brentwood

thanks hpsaucy. We're going to go to King Georges park. Is the cafe there any good as I've just checked the fridge and think i might struggle to put together much in the way of a packed lunch?

King georges park don't have a cafe iirc they have an icecream hut . Personally Southend beach is all pebbles and filthy water . I have been told that Walton is much better but I haven't been there as a child . Southend is only good of you love arcades as that's all that's there . They do have a few rides there in a place called Fantasy Island ( I think that's what it's called )
personally I'd day go to Walton or stop off in brentwood high street where there are loads of shops , grab dome darnies and sit in Brentwood park ( king georges playing fields )

Not dome darnies . Some Sarnies !!! That was meant to say

thanks for the King George Park recommendation hpsaucy - it was fab! The two boys didn't leave the skate park (they had one trick scooter which they shared really nicely) and the girls played in the play area, cycled and scooted and generally had fun. We've already made plans to go there during the next holidasy. Thanks again.

i love southend. Adventure Island is fab loads of rides for your age range and not badly priced but beach is pebbley. Walton is ok but i personally prefer clacton out of the two x
