Unexpectedly DH will have August off and we want to go somewhere- Any suggestions?
Kids will be 4 and 2.5 so not too adventurous.
Cost not a major issue (within reason)
Thoughts so far- driving round California or driving round France. Friends to visit in both places.
We need inspiration! Thanks

I think doing a major trip such as a drive round Califonia (or any where else long haul) would be challenging, and I personally think that it is better to do such a large holiday when the children are old enough to enjoy it and remember it. (unless of course you can afford to do it every year).

France would be much more manageable, you could have your own car for a starter.

I would start with Paris (and perhaps the dreaded disney) then work down the eastern side of France, stopping somewhere like Chamonix (which is supposed to be lovely in the summer), hit the south coast for a while, then call in at Carcassone and Toulouse before heading back up to La Rochelle and the Il de Ré, then Brittany and home.

Mix up the time in different accommodation - campsites, b+b and hotels interspersed with a week in a gite to catch up on your washing.

How about taking your time driving to the south of France and catching a ferry to Corsica. You could stay in a villa for a couple of weeks and either fly back direct to the UK or drive back a different way through France.

That's what I'd do with a four week holiday anyway Envy
