We ware off to stay there this weekend and my sister and her DH are coming over to visit us. We are camping so do not want to have to do Sunday lunch for them .
Is there anywhere family friendly that we could book to have luch /evening meal on Sunday ?
TIA Smile

Don't know Barnard Castle itself, but Romaldkirk is not too far away and there is a great pub/hotel there called The Rose And Crown. Went while staying in Teesdale ages ago and had a great meal. You need to book.

If you have a car and don't mind driving there are some wonderful pubs and restaurants around and about. The Morritt Arms is great which is very near and there's a great pub in Winston though I forget it's name which isn't very helpful!

Thanks both of you. Smile .
We will not have transport once we're there unforntunately, as we are going in a camper van and once its set up on site we don't move until we leave. Will bear those places in mind for antother time though .

try the riverside restaurant in Barnard Castle..I asked a friend who lives there and she says it's nice!

Was going to come on and suggest The Rose and Crown at Romaldkirk, but see Lizzywishes beat me to it!

That is very near the campsite so I will give them a ring . Menu looks good on their site Yum.
This will not do my diet any good at all Grin

You could try Valentines which is in the town ... on Galgate, I think.

I'm originally from Teesdale and went back recently for a visit and went to the Bowes Museum and they have a lovely little restaurant in there too - family friendly with highchairs, changing, lifts etc.

I'm heading back there on Sunday too! Enjoy - I hear the weather is lovely :)

Well we had a lovely time. We went to Penny's cafe for lunch one day and The Old Well for Sunday lunch, very reasonable at £7.50 per adult and £4.50 per child. We went to Bowes museum ,but picniced that day as it was so nice.
Weather was fab and campsite great. We walked miles and even DD enjoyed it . ResultSmile

As you've already been and come back this is not much help but in case you revisit... We go up to Barny about twice a year to see old school friends and we have a revolt on our hands if we don't go to Penny's. The Rose & Crown is good but not particularly child friendly (and not cheap); Riverside is good, Burrels fish and chips are always on our itinerary too. The Fox & Hound at Cotherstone is supposed to be v good but haven't been.

Thanks SB, we definately intend returning there, it was a lovely place . We will try the riverside next time as we found out when we got there ,they give 10% discount to members of a club we're in .
