How do airmiles work please?

I tried this a whle ago but had no response! So here goes. Everyone seems to have airmiles, I don`t understand how they work or how you earn them, can someone please tell me?

There are a bunch of different reward systems involving airlines, but if you're talking about the actual "Air Miles" programme, its run by British Airways. Once you have registered (its free), you can collect air miles from a range of retailers (eg: Tesco, Powergen) and will receive periodic statements telling you how many you have accumulated. Then you can use the miles to buy flights, or to get discounts on flights and holidays through BA and their affiliates.

Air miles is the BA system. Other airlines have other reward systems. Air miles only work through BA or their affiliates (American etc). The price of the flight won't be relevant if you're buying with miles - the number of miles is the key. Check the Airmiles.co.uk website for details.

Unfortuantely the previous info given re airmiles and BA is incorrect.

Regular flyers on British Airways are able to join the BA Executive Club and earn BA Miles. However, this is a completely separate scheme and should not be confused with AirMiles which is a customer loyalty programme.

Sorry Triplets - I presumed you were asking about the rewards programme - but as Meerkats points out there are two!

now I am even more confused, if say I traded my tesco vouchers how then do I use the airmiles, am I being dumb................yes!

Find out how many airmiles your vouchers come to. Check the airmiles web site to see how many you need for whatever destination you want.

Its 60 airmiles for every £2.50 of vouchers, by the way.

I get them on my natwest credit cards and every 3 years or so we fly to dublin on them .. I obviously spend too much on credit cards

Me too Twiglett - we have flown to NY on them, and now have enough for the whole family to fly to the US next year. So I must be as bad!

oh, sounds good to me, so I can get them on my Tesco m/card!
