Hi
Would love to go to antigua in august but bit concerned about the weather and also as is 'low season' there will restaurants etc be shut? Planning on renting a villa.

Anyone been in august? Thanks!

One word

Hurricanes.

Absolutely mid season for them and other tropical storms. My DH goes to that part of the world several times a year on business and never goes unless an emergency between around end of June and November. Unbelievably hot and sticky as well.

anonymous- that's a bit scary... I had an idea that antigua wasn't generally as effected as other parts of caribbean/ florida area...

Honey, you may be right, I am generalising as I simply know DH avoids the whole area for 3/4 months of the year!! Sorry, my info is not specific to Antigua, though Antigua is always on his route....

Sorry, didn't mean to alarm. Sounds like you have researched and know more than me!

Hurricane season in the Caribbean does start around that time of year.

ronx- yup I know you are right- I just wondered if anyone had been at this time and had a good experience- not just weather- I've read that a lot of stuff shuts up at this time too.

hhmmm....

We have been several times during july and august, it is hot, it does rain but only for short periods and is very heavy. Antigua and Barbados usually miss the worst of the severe weather. Certainly wouldnt put me off going again.

thanks fitflopqueen- that gives me a bit of hope! What about restaurants and things like that? Are they generally open in august?

Hi - despite the hurricane season the summer holidays are still high season in the Caribbean because that is when a lot of holidaymakers go there so all restaurants etc will be up and running normally. The time to avoid is after the end of the holidays until the start of the Christmas season (which co-incides with the end of the hurricane season, so mid-Novemberish), that is when things are really quiet.
