Has anyone stayed at either Camping Butterfly or Camping Eden on Lake Garda?

We are looking at booking at one of these sites for late August with Canvas Holidays. We know the area as we have travelled to another site on Garda before.

Would be interested in any thoughts on either site or on Canvas Holidays, as we haven't used them before.

TIA.

Yes we stayed at Camp Eden last year with Canvas. It was our first experience of staying at a campsite in Italy and our first with Canvas. The site is lovely with beautiful views of Lake Garda but obviously at a cost - the site is quite steep. We counted about 100 steps back up to our mobile home so bear in mind if you have very young ones in pushchairs. We didn't pay for a lake view but just about had one between the tents in front of us. I'm not sure if you are planning tent of mobile home but they are mixed together. We stayed in a mobile home and I think went for the basic one which is quite basic and compact (we would upgrade if we did it again). We had a row of sinks quite near us so did sometimes wake to the sound of people doing their washing up! there is a nice restaurant on site with views of the lake. The pools are quite nice but you need to be early to get a place. We also discovered a nice beach nearby (which you have to drive to) although a bit pebbly but nice to swim in. From the site you can walk down to Portese on the lake which had restaurants and where you can get boats to most areas of the lake.

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Princess - thanks. Did you have to wear a hat in the pools?

Yes you do but everyone else does so you don't worry about it after a while. Assume that would be the same at other campsites in Italy? So are you going? I guess you need to hear about the other campsite.

We have just booked Princess - will be going to Eden with Canvas! The lady on the phone was really helpful and had lots of useful info, so that reassured me. They only had the basic/classic mobile left but I am sure they will be ok (we usually stay in the smallest Thomson al Fesco ones so we are not used to big ones anyway!) I think the only thing we will miss is the decking as that is quite nice to have - but not exactly an essential holiday factor.

The other factor was that Canvas were nearly £400 cheaper than the other operators in the same area because they cater to the Scottish market, and we are going just as the Scottish schools go back, so Canvas prices drop a lot.

Well done! We booked after speaking to someone at Canvas as didn't know which park to choose. We didn't have decking either and it was fine. We found Canvas cheaper as well - are you in Scotland?? As a matter or interest is there any reason you would not go with Thompson Al Fresco again - we still can't decide what to do this year (see my other thread!).

We have found Thomson to be really good. We travelled to Fornella in Lake Garda with them and also a place in Tuscany 3 times- but they are no longer going to that park. The main reason we didn't book with them this time is that they were so much more expense for the same sort of parks at Garda- at exactly the same time- as Canvas. We are not in Scotland. Good luck with yr booking. I can recommend Fornella in Tuscany, Camping Pianacce.

hi guys, i stayed at camping eden a few yrs ago with canvas. lovely site great views.
There is a local market in Salo which we enjoyed although its busy and parking can be difficult, we also go the ferry to malecine (sp) to go on the cable car up the mountain.
gardaland is great fun also. its about an hour from camping eden.

notyummy · 20/04/2011 08:56

Thanks Ihatethecold! cable car sounds good. How old were your kids? Dd will have just turned 5 and we don't want to go if there is loads of stuff at Gardaland that she is too short for- she will get frustrated as she will want to go on the big rides!

Hi, I've read your comments regarding camping Eden, I hope you can help me. Do you need a car there, or is everything (towns walking distance) we want to go some where with out the car, we have two kids 7 yr and 9 yr old? Many thanks

Peeenut · 09/09/2012 16:28

Yes, you do need a car :)

We didnt stay at Eden but Silvella with Vacansoleil near by. It's a lovely part of the lake, we visited the southern part, where's loads ofmthenhuge sites are, and didn't like it so much.

Hat wearing was policed in the pools but everyone is wearing them. We went to Decathlon and picked up some of those material ones, much nicer than the rubber ones.
