It is well signposted, but quite complicated, so you will have to watch the signs carefully. Car ferries go from a different place to passenger ones, so need to watch for the correct set of signs (also ferries to France are in another place, so lots of different ferry signs). Assuming you are coming down the A3, you need to get on the A27 and leave at the M275, then follow the signs.

It is really well sign posted. You are basically heading through Portsmouth to just beyond Gunwharf keys.

Yes don't head for the cross channel ferry port (off the M275) but continue towards the naval base/Gunwharf Keys.

It is well signposted but make sure you're heading for the IoW ferries and not the cross channel or Gosport ferry!

There is a big sign as you enter the city telling you which symbol is for which set of ferries.

My sat nav got me to the IoW ferry port last summer, just don't go too fast through portsmouth in case you suddenly realise you're in the wrong lane to turn right/left.

Or you could go from Lymington if you'd rather not attempt driving through portsmouth.
