Portugal near faro but not too built up?

Considering our first holiday to Portugal as flights are cheap. We typically don't like holidays with lots of other Brits about & not too touristy (I know we're miserable sods!). Can anyone advise where we should avoid or any recommendations of towns? We'll probably book a private let as we'd like 2 bedrooms.
We'd like to be near a nice beach.

Carviero (I may have spelled that wrong). Gorgeous, and nothing like as touristy as villamoura, etc.

Lagos is lovely, we rented a private apt there with 2 bedrooms.

The beaches all around Lagos are lovely ( have a google at Praia Dona Ana) , but the sea is cold!!!

Benagil.

Little fishing village in between little cove beaches. We would go at 9 am with our 2 toddlers and there would be no one there - bliss.

We stayed in one of the houses at "Terracos de Benagil" which had a fab sea view, bbq, air con etc. Its about 40 mins from Faro if I remember rightly.

Try holiday-rentals or algarveholidaylettings.com

We are the same and this suited us brilliantly. Near enough to Carvoeiro for all we needed but far enough away to not feel too touristy

Brilliant some great suggestions I'll check out those letting suggestions too Bodinga thanks.

What's the drive like from Faro to W algarve is it quite straightforward?

Thanks again everyone!

Salema, Burgau, or perhaps Tavira which is a small regional town but more Portugese than touristy.

Another vote for Carvoeiro .. my parents have a place there and there are some lovely local beaches tucked away from other tourists.

Looking for something similar so will watch with interest & not rent any where near you Grin

I've been trawling t'Interweb and find that villas in Portugal seem to be more expensive than other places, mainland Spain, Canaries. Is this the norm or am I on the wrong sites?

Going to try the algarveholidaylettings suggested earlier but looking for 3 or 4 bed villa/bungalow, either private with pool or small complex with shared pool.

When are you thinking of OP?
