Lost EHIC

DD14 is going on a school trip to France next Saturdayfor 4 days. We've been moving house this week and needless to say i can't find her EHIC Blush although we have found her passport. I've found my card - would she be able to use this? Plus we have general travel insurance anyway. I've read that as long as she has her passport the hospitals don't tend to ask for the EHIC but is this just an urban myth? Is it too late to apply for a replacement? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

If you look them up online, there is a number to ring if you have lost your card. I'm not sure what the wait time is. Our cards were replaced within a week, but I don't know if that is standard. There is also information about what to if you have lost your card and haven't had time to have it replaced (numbers to ring in case of emergency for example) - it happened to us last year before our holiday!

IME they will want the EHIC. Call the number for a replacement ASAP and double check she's covered by your travel insurance on a school trip and what the conditions are. It may be a case of paying upfront and getting it reimbursed which wouldn't help.

you can call them up and the replacement card will be in the post in 1-2 working days ime.

I've done this. EHIC people gave me a reference number and said that this could be used if the card didnt turn up on time.

Thanks everyone. I rang them up this morning and ordered a replacement card. If it doesn't come before she goes I've got the number to ring where the hospital will be able to confirm that she's on the system. Needed to include her NHS number too (got this by ringing our doctors -needless to say yet ANOTHER bit of paper I could't find). Thanks for all your help. x
