Roald Dahl Museum

We're planning a short "girls only" break in June (DH will be away), and this year dd wants to go to the Roald Dahl museum at Great Missenden, in Buckinghamshire.

Has anyone been?

How long will it take us to see everything?

Is there anything else interesting for a 7 year old in that area?

The plan would be to drive down to the museum first thing in the morning, and then stay at a nice hotel on the way back up north, but looking at the website I'm concerned it might be a very quick museum visit and we'll end up at the hotel really early.

I went on a school trip there a few years ago and loved it! How long u stay there will depend on how much your dd wants to do but I wouldn't have thought it would be than half a day. Can't help with other local attractions I'm afraid!

It's fantastic :) I loved it when I went and that was when I was at college!

There are two - the Roald Dahl museum (go here first) and the Roald Dahl Children's Gallery in Aylesbury which is more of a science museum type thing with activities etc. They are about a 20 minute drive apart so worth going to both if you're travelling a long way anyway.

The Roald Dahl Museum is fantastic, it is very interactive for children and often there are things on at the weekend, famous authors, storytellers, chocolate workshops.

Actually if you live in an HP postcode area and bring a utility bill then you get free entry today, and 10% discount in the shop.

There is also a phizz-whizzing plate thingy going on.

Thanks everyone, that really helps, and I didn't know about the gallery, off to google.

Thanks again.

The Gallery looks great, the two venues should make a fun packed day, just need to find a nice hotel, (dd wants it to have a pool, I want it to be reasonably priced) and it's sorted.

Grin

I don't think I'll get away with than unfortunately, last year we went to Cadburys World and stayed overnight at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole, so I've set a bit of a standard for these trips.

TBH I got a good deal from Hilton last year, and DH will be away on a weeks fishing holiday so a treat is in order.

no Hiltons round this way OP, but there are Holiday Inns in Aylesbury and surrounding areas if that helps you out. There are also Hotels in Gt Missenden but small... oh The Hotel that featured in 4 weddings & a Funeral amongst other movies is in Old Amersham, you could stay there. Old Amersham has lots of nice little shops and delis and things.
