I need to apply for DSs passport, is anyone able to answer this query though?
My passport is 8 years old, so has my maiden name on it, however I was married when DS was born. Under mothers name, should I put my maiden name or married name?

I would put my married name, coz that's what you are now. The form probably also asks for your maiden name or 'any other previous names' anyway.

No maiden name space, but checking the form then I've spotted a "additional info" space, so I'll put it there :)

You need to enter your own passport details so complete it in the name your passport is in and then enter the fact you are married in the additional info section.

Don't forget to book your ticket in the name your passport is in!
