Outer Hebrides?

Any suggestions for a self-drive.ferry summer holiday itinerary in the outerHebrides for a week to 10 days? With a cultural/archaeology/history/wildlife watching focus, not a sporty one. (We tend to dawdle languidly rather than zip about on bicycles/pogo sticks etc.) One DS aged four.

Recommended places to stay, things not to miss?

sorry, typo, that should have read 'self-drive/ferry' i.e. a mixture of both, we're not currently seeking to self-drive a sea-going ferry. Thank you. As you were.
