Hello all,
Myself, hubby and 3 boys, ages 14, 12 and 6 are going to Majorca in the middle of August for 2 weeks. I have got the flights sorted but not sure where to stay (area or apartment). We like to go self catering and stay in a complex where there's a bit of entertainment, obviously a pool, maybe a play area for our youngest or even a kids club but not holding out hope for this seen as I will be booking direct and not going with Thomsons or the like. Don't mind a bit of a walk to the town centre or beach as long as we're not walking along a motorway. Somewhere with a nice long promenade walk would be nice if there is such a place as would a beach with kids activities going on. Any advice would be appreciated.

I can't recommend hotels or complexes as when we went (October 09) we had an independent apartment. Going again this Easter and having an apartment again.

I would say that the North is nice.

We stayed at Peurto Pollenca which was lovely and it is probably where we will stay again.

We also visited Portocristo and Alcudia which were nice.

I would avoid the areas near Magaluf and Santa Ponca personally.

I agree that the north, especially around Pollensa and the port, is lovely.
