Turks and Caicos is lovely, direct flight from Heathrow, hotel is super super child friendly, weather is very warm but not unbearable heat and the sea is gentle, warm and perfect for paddling!

ShavingGodfreysPrivates · 08/03/2011 18:02

The only Caribbean island I've been to is Barbados which was lovely. Wish I could afford to go back Sad

My boys were older though (9 and 12 at the time).

Wotznotnow · 09/03/2011 11:55

Where to start - well there are some ideas on this thread only about a month old www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_advice_tips/1145427-Can-anyone-suggest-good-family-hotels-all-inclusive-in-the-carribean

Took a while to find it on search as Caribbean spelt wrong in the thread title! Not yours.

All Caribbean flights are from London. Plus Barbados also has a flight from Manchester with Virgin Atlantic.

Will have a look. Thank you so much.

You might want to think about all inclusive.

We did all inclusive three years ago in st Lucia. It was 4 star (so not a dive) but it was shit.

People want to get pissed from the moment the bar is open, they crush to the restaurant and stuff their faces. Generally atmosphere is get in and get yours first.

We won't do that again.
I prefer to do room only. It rarely turns out much more expensive and no fight for the bar.

I guess it does make sense if you plan to drink loads Grin

gregssausageroll · 09/03/2011 13:44

Good point pag. I'd hate that!

GSR it's not caribbean, on the coast, but Mexico is really lovely. Went are going for the 3rd time with ds (4) and it is a brilliant place. The hotel we stayed in is very family friendly and although it is all inclusive we never once saw anyone drunk. It was more for famillies and couples and a lot of American tourists who don't seem to drink that much (unlike myself and fellow Scots Blush

I like Aruba. Thomson do flights from London and Manchester

cakeforbrains · 20/03/2011 19:02

waitingforgodot - totally agree with you about aruba, we had the best holiday there. I've never come across anyone else who has been there, whenever I mention it people just say "where??"

amerryscot · 20/03/2011 19:05

We have been twice to www.fdrholidays.com in Jamaica.

I know what you mean!! Oh how I long to go back there! I adore it

OnlyWantsOne · 20/03/2011 19:49

Google Le Galleries in St Lucia

Amazing (dd1 age 9 months came too). Was lovely catered appartment. Flew from stansted.

cakeforbrains · 20/03/2011 19:57

waitingforgodot - DH and I spend hours talking about how/when we'll go back. But flights have rocketed in price and we now have 2 DS so I think we'll be saving for a few years yet :(

waitingforgodot · 20/03/2011 21:58

I know what you mean. Have taken DS twice when he was a toddler and he loved it. Where did you stay?

cakeforbrains · 21/03/2011 13:37

We stayed at the Holiday Inn on Palm beach, room only which we prefer to all-inclusive. DS1 was 11 months at the time. We booked it very last minute so it was a total bargain. Where did you stay? I'm thinking if we did go back I'd try to find an apartment or house to rent rather than a hotel.

waitingforgodot · 21/03/2011 18:25

we stayed at the Renaissance in Oranjestad. It is brilliant! We were room only too

giddybiddy · 06/04/2011 16:45

Alibobster - where did you stay in Mexico please?

BigChiefOrganiser · 06/04/2011 16:52

We went to Turtle Beach (i think?) in Barbados last year with a 3yo, a DH with a broken leg, and me 6mths pregnant. Was lovely. Had 2 weeks, good food, beautiful beach (was a little bit rough, but could still swim with toddler, just kept a careful eye). Staff very nice, other vacationers friendly and helpful. We also hired a car for a few days so we could have a look around the island, I'd recommend this. Would love to go back there.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 06/04/2011 16:56

Moon Palace in Cancun, Mexico is lovely.

mollymole · 06/04/2011 17:02

Barbados - beach around St. Lawrence is very very shallow for a very long way out and they love kids and the whole island is VERY safe

giddybiddy · 06/04/2011 18:23

Oh just had a look at Moon Palace, MCTH, looks v nice indeed....

Sorry, I am am completely hijacking this thread, don't have a toddler at all, but looking for a family all inclusive place for some winter sun....

omnishambles · 06/04/2011 18:28

we went to a small AI in Antigua a few years ago - on the sw of the island and it was perfect - small so you dont get the business Pag described but a good island for visiting St Johns and the beaches etc.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 07/04/2011 12:01

Giddybiddy

If you have slightly older children, have a look at the Iberostar Punta Cana in Dominican Republic, our daughter loves it there, lots to do for children, great evening entertainment, dd made loads of friends as there were lots of families with children her age (she is 10).

Fab holiday, really lovely people.
Not an awful lot to do off resort, though, especially if you're the sight seeing type. Mexico much better for that sort of thing ime.

Alibobster · 07/04/2011 22:11

Hi Giddybiddy, stayed at the Iberostar Tucan in Playacar. Cannot recommend it enough, fantastic hotel

giddybiddy · 10/04/2011 18:19

Thanks for both those suggestions, will investigate! Not the sight seeing type for this holiday, am lying in sunshine type!
