Ile de Re without cycling or car

Is it feasible to holiday on Ile de Re without bikes or car? I wonder how frequent buses are or walking distances from St Martin (where we will be staying) to La Flotte, Le Bois Plage, etc. Two of our children and husband can cycle. However, I have an epileptic son who cannot ride but is happy on foot. I would rather take the plane and a taxi to the island than a car, especially since we are travelling in August.

Try this It would appear there is a bus service - I have never used it myself. We are going there in July, but taking a car and planning to hire bikes. Have you thought of hiring a car or even going in the car? As you are staying in St Martin you will be at the centre of things anyway. How old is your son and is he a good walker -I would say it is about 5km from St Martin to La Flotte and the same again to Le Bois Plage. Whatever you decide I can confirm that the Ile de Re is absolutely heavenly. I think you would have great holiday even if you didn't stray far from St Martin. What about hiring a car for a couple of days if you want to explore properly?

Thanks for you tips and suggestions - I would hope that more buses are laid on for the summer! My son is a teenager so the distances you mention would not be a problem so long as we aren't in a heatwave. We wanted to be car-free if possible, as we are in the middle of St Martin for evenings and would only use a car for the occasional change of beach. However, a couple of days sounds like a good compromise.
