Greece in the May half term?

I have not booked a holiday abroad for years - but now have an opportunity to go away for the may half term break.

I have no idea where to start.

I loved Greece when I was younger and child free and want to take my kids (4 and 2) somewhere where they can feel warm sun, play in the sea and eat olives and vine leaves.

Can anyone recommend some good websites so we can start our search?

Is it cheaper in a self catering place, or in a hotel? Are there any Islands which would be better for kids?

We have only holidayed in the UK since they were born, so am feeling a bit lost.

Thanks

I would say you need to focus on the more southerly Greek Islands. We went to Parga on the mainland one year in May. Twas very cool in the evenings and we had a fair bit of rain and cooler weather over the 2 weeks. Ditto Skiathos in May - mostly warm but far more rain than I have ever known in Greek Isles.

Self catering will usually be cheaper. However, if you look at the website of the resort/island you want to visit you can book direct with the owner and usually get a good price even with hotels. To give you an example, we booked a hotel in Afitos (Halkidiki) direct with the owner and then BA flights for £1700 for 2 weeks in August. The same holiday booked through Thomas Cook was £3,500 for 1 week!!

Thank you very much. But looking at the prices I now don't think it is going to be possible.

Over £1k for all of us to fly to Crete with Easyjet. And that's before we even look at the accommodation. This is my first year having to book in school holidays and I don't see how we will ever go on holiday abroad again! I think I have forgotten how much things cost. Or forgotten that I am now booking for 4 people and not 2.

Good job I enjoy camping Confused

Try other airlines Prince. Easyjet were £500 more expensive than BA when we flew to Thessaloniki.

You could also try Monarch, Olympic, Thomson and Thomas Cook.

Thanks. I'll keep looking.
