Italy in October - where to go?

We are considering going to Italy in October. We have no idea where to go though.

We would like to rent a villa or apartment but not a car, so need somewhere we can get to from an airport without massive trauma on trains or enormous expense in a taxi.
We also will need to be somewhere we can get around without a car so we can go sight seeing now and again.
Finally, we would like it to be warm but not hot eg about 20C.

I know it is a long list but does anyone have any ideas?

We have 2 dcs - a 10 year old and a 6 year old.

Sorrento would be good. You can get a taxi (probably about £50) or non-traumatic train from Naples to your accomodation then use public transport and boats to get around. Naples has castles, museums and the best pizza in the world, you can visit Pompeii and Herculaneum and get boats to Amalfi, Positano and Capri.
