Wanting to do a few days here on a little road trip in the summer, any family friendly hotels/day trips that you can recommend?

There are carriage rides around the centre of the city, which is a really nice way to see it.

Blackenberge is a town on the coast, about 20mins from Brugges. There is a sand sculpture festival there every summer. Apparently it's amazing and I intend to take my family there this year.

Knokke is another town on the coast. It's a beach resort which is very popular with Belgian tourists.

If you want a night right in the centre Ibis is basic but good and about 5 minutes walk (if that) to the main squares.

Hope you have a lovely time.

I have very happy memories of Bruges- thats where DH proposed! We stayed in the Hotel Heritage which was aboslutely lovely and the staff really went the extra mile and left flowers and wine in the room free after we got engaged. The chocolate museum is nice for a walk around, also the diamond museum had a very interesting talk but not sure whow interesting it would be for children though TBH. They will enjoy a boat trip I'm sure. And lots of frites with mayonnaise, yummm.....
