Family Travel Insurance with independent child travel cover

We want to take out an annual multi-trip insurance policy for DH and I, plus 3 DCs for travel within Europe only. However DD1 and DD2 have school trips abroad, and may also travel abroad with their father in the summer - again within Europe.

All of the family policies I've looked at so far only cover the DCs if they are travelling with us. It doesn't seem to be possible to pay for a family policy that allows children to travel independently.

Is that really the case - do we have to buy 2 policies - one family one for DH, I and DC3, and a separate one for DD1 and DD2?

What have others done?

Have you tried Columbus? We have a family policy with them and it covers my two eldest children even (though they are over 18 which unusual!) to travel with us and separately but not sure it covers the under-18s to travel alone (but havent checked).

will take a look thanks. Someone also suggested American Express to me as well.

Columbus are very reasonable - we did it through the YHA and got a very good deal. Not used American Express but have had great difficulty in the past getting insurance for one of my sporty daughters who travelled a lot in Europe with the team competing when she was under 18 - that was a nightmare! Good luck!
