We want to go to Rome for our 10th (argh!) we4dding anniversary next april. We were thinking of staying in an apartment, does anyone have any experience of this? Any good tips for must sees, restaurants, bars?

Bumping for you - I'm hoping to go for the first time in the Autumn.

You could ask on Little Italy- there is a poster who lives in Rome over there.

one of the best meals I have ever had was in Trastevere - just outside city centre (equidistant between Vatican and Coliseum). Walkabout or v short bus ride. Unbelievable pizzas etc in an area of Rome just buzzing with atmosphere. Only ever stayed in hotels in Rome and wouldn't recommend any of them tbh. Apartment sounds nice. There is a very nice park in Rome which looks down on the city - lovely.

walkable - not walkabout I meant

Agree with Wheels - Trastevere is glorious - quirky and different and there are always plenty of Italians in the restaurants - always a good sign.

Have never stayed in an apartment - frankly I'm not sure you wouldn't be better in a hotel. There's so much to do and see in Rome that you'll be spending very little time in accommodation. See if you can get hold of a book called 'Secret Rome' - full of absolute gems that you wouldn't otherwise know about.
Also - a trip to the Vatican Necropolis is an incredible thing to do - you can apply via this site - www.catholicnews.com/data/vatican/pilgrim.htm - but do so well in advance.
Enjoy!
