i found a good hotel (sadly for you in eastbourne) by searching on the AA website:

aa website

if you type whereabouts you want to go (or search on a map) it then comes up with a new page and you can specify 'children welcome' family rooms and swimming pool.

Hope this helps

The Observer ran a good list of child friendly hotels a few months back (thisweek they did 50 best budget hotels in UK.)

They're usually spot on.
Check out the archives.

How about North Wales? I would recommend the Empire and the Tudno in Llandudno ( both minutes from the pier and run by the same family.)
