Trunkis - any good or useless gimmick?

Are those trunki suitcase things for kids any good?

DH is taking our 6 yo long haul, I thought a rucksack is probably better

Thoughts?

Mine has been v useful for my 3 year old because it means we can check his push chair in and he can sit on the trunki and be pulled thru the airport. He hates walking!

You can't get a lot in a trunki and it's a bit of an awkward shape TBH. It is also a bit prone to tipping over when you pull it (unless there is a large child sitting on top of it LOL)

I think for a 6 yr old I'd go for a rucksack or small wheelie bag.

DD was given one when she was 6, I rather ungratefully wished they (PIL) had checked with me first because I thought she was too old - but actually it was great and now she's nearly 8 it still gets a lot of use (not just flying). I then got younger ds one.

Perfect size for 1 or 2 nights, they will carry or pull it along themselves, they always have a seat (e.g when waiting for trains & buses) and dd can still be pulled along on it, just, if the conditions are right and she bends her legs up Grin.

Ds got one when he was 3 and loves his. It's been a life saver in busy airports, it's actually with him at grannies just now, asits his special suitcase.

Think 6 might be too old though... Cant see you being able to pull a 6 year old along. Perhaps a similar child themed trolley suitcase would be better

DD adores hers. It's been used and used and used. She sits on it, rides on it, pulls it along, packs it herself etc. On flights it's counted as hand luggage too iirc.

But at 6 maybe one of those trolley ones would be better. My cousin's ds had a penguin one that he adores. It's this.

We used a trunki until our DD was 5 and it was a complete PITA as far as we were concerned. It holds so little but is so bulky and relatively heavy that it is almost completely impractical. It was hard to pull her along on it in a busy airport, esp when we had other children and oodles of hand luggage etc. She then usually insisted on pulling it herself and this caused no end of problems as it swung around like crazy behind her, pissing everyone off mightily.

I was desperate to ditch it at every stage of the journey.

Thanks
Doesn't sound like it will suit us
When we all travel together the 6 yo has to push the double buggy with the younger ones in
