Got any recommendations for Bali?

DH, kids and I are hoping to go to Bali for a week this July. (From Oz so not quite so longhaul). Has anyone been? Can you recommend anywhere to stay - I guess sort of mid-range price wise - much as I'd love to do 5 luxury we have a 3 budget.

I know Kuta is busy and touristy so I'd like to avoid that. My preference would be to go to a nice beach resort, with small cottages or cheap(ish) suites. We are a family of 4 - so maybe a place with a kids club would be good.

Should I just go to the travel agents? Grin

Can't really help but just wanted to say DH and I got married in Bali 10 years ago and it was soooo lovely! Mind you we stayed at the Four Seasons Resort which is like an absolutely perfect place, literally not a leaf or blade of grass out of place....just a totally perfect place. However not somewhere you'd take kids! Bali is fascinating, we visited temples and went to paddy-fields to see rice growing and watched wood carving and went to an alabaster carving place (basically we got taken anywhere the holiday company thought we might spend money I suppose!)...but most of the time we just stayed in the resort as it was too perfect to leave. So as you can see, I have been of no help whatsoever but it was a beautiful country and I thoroughly recommend it and wish I could go back (but not with my 6 and 3 year olds!!)

Try Sanur area - we went with a 7 years old
and it was lovely

Bali is absolutely stunning. We stayed in the Sanur area as well and loved it.

also may help with children we found it cheaper and more interesting to hire a local car and driver for the day - they took us to all sorts of interesting places - a lot different from the 'fixed tours' and very interesting

Thanks for this. Those that stayed on Sanur, can you remember the resort you stayed at? Did it have a kids club?

Jelly belly the 4 seasons sounds ace. What a lovely honeymoon!

it is some time ago but in sanur we stayed at Grand Bali beach - right on the beach,
very large grounds with a choice of pools - including kids only - it also had cottages in the grounds and various activities
