still never get it right!....how much should we take for a week? (2 adults and 3 - young - kids)!
took £2000.00 (i know, i know...!) for 2 weeks in May this year and came back with almost half. How much do you take? (We "like a drink" if you know what I mean and the kids love to eat,eat,eat...! Don't want to be worrying about money on holiday-we are self-catering by the way.Anyone an expert on these things?

No expert, but think that if you managed to bring back half with you that's much better than coming home with your own personal national debt.

Have a great holiday!

We spent £560 one week Self catering in Greece this year. (2 adults, one child) That included meals, booze and 2 trips, but no car hire. We ate breakfast in the apartment, meals out lunchtimes and evenings.

just take a cash card surely

LIZS · 12/10/2005 22:08

We'll be taking some Euros but would plan to use our cash card for most of it.

gingerbear · 12/10/2005 22:10

Royal Bank of Scotland charged us £7 to withdraw 200 euros using a cash card!!!!

gingerbear · 12/10/2005 22:11

Nationwide have the best cash card to use abroad (according to moneysavingexpert website)

LIZS · 12/10/2005 22:16

gb, no !!! We've often used our cards abroad and not got stung like that.

gingerbear · 12/10/2005 22:18

Pah! was really peed off. Who did you use Liz?

cutekids · 12/10/2005 22:20

Thanks MML!!!
GB aar you're a Martin Lewis fan like myself? (MSEXPERT)?!
Yes we did use our card to go to "PIRATES" in May-just aswell...it was VERY expensive!...but that's only cos the Thomson's reps near enough insisted! However, I still prefer the old-fashioned traveller's-cheques etc!
S'pose if we took about £1500 worth that should cover it, shouldn't it? Just take our card for emergencies-God forbid. At least traveller's cheques can be cashed back in or kept for the next holiday can't they?

We currently bank with another bit of RBS ! Will get dh to check before we go, so thanks for the warning.

Perhaps I'm just a bit out of touch as we also have a Swiss bank account (by virtue of the fact that we lived there before anyone asks !) and never got charged that much for using that one last year in Majorca or even to take out Euros elsewhere in Europe. Guess we could always use that card instead, if I can remember the pin !

Hi,
We are regulars to the island with our three, we taks some euros but then use our card, we bank with Nationwide so don`t get charged, also by using the card we get a much better rate. We always rent a house so its b/fast in, but usually have at least 3 lunches out and 5 nights out, so spend on an average £80-90 a day, inc icecreams etc, where are you staying? Wish we were off! Have a lovely time.
