How do I go on holiday with a 3mo?

I'm a first time mum. We are planning a holiday to Jersey this March, when ds will be 3mo. I really need some tips on how I organise the practicalities of travel with a baby.

For example, I have a bugaboo cameleon. Do I take this with us and if so when should I check it in? Or is there a light, cheap buggy type thing that I should get to take instead? Presumably not as ds still needs to lay flat at 3 months. However, I'm a bit worried my expensive bugaboo might get damaged in transit. Any experience here?

Also, we are planning on hiring a car. Do I also hire a car seat or do I take my own?

Any advice from more experienced travellers gratefully received!

I'd take your own carseat and check your bugaboo in. Some airports have a wrapping sevice to protect luggage which might prvent scrathes etc but I'm sure it would be fine.

Take your own carseat.

I have flown by Easyjet 3 times with baby, took pushcair across as well all three times, but only took car seat the last 2 - we hired one the first time we went and it did not not look safe or adequate to me.

My carseat has been fine, it can get a little damp because of condensation, so I would wrap it in a large plastic bag. You will need to check it in via special baggage.

Easyjet and a few other carriers will take such equipment free of charge.
