I've never been to Europe (except for a horrific one-day trip to France which is better forgotten) and I'm just booked to go to Bruges with some work friends for a four-day weekend!
What kind of things would you reccomend to do while we are there? Clearly chocolate will be ieaten in vast quantities but what else?

Horse-drawn carriage ride round the city, boat trip on the canals, Museum of Chocolate, Art Galleries, lace shops, sit outside cafe with large frothing hot chocolate (daytime) or tipple of choice (evening) and huge plate of Belgian waffles smothered in cream and chocolate and watch the world go by...

Have a fab time!

(I went with DH a few years back for our 10th wedding anniversary)

Bruges is lovely and can agree with everything Vanillacandle has said. Both times we have stayed in the Ibis in the centre as it is only two mins walk from both main squares and the canal - very handy. It's a fairly basic hotel but is very good if you are on a budget and/or if you just want somewhere to relax.

We went for a childfree weekend in April. Really enjoyed the quasimundo bike tour of the city - it's number one on trip advisor. Good way to get your bearings of the area before you start walking around.
