£550 to fly to Cornwall!!

Air Southwest have no discount for children - age 2 and over pay adult fares. So for 2 adults + 2 kids, it will be £550 for a return flight to Cornwall (from up north) this summer. Seems awfully high...

AFAIK, all airlines charge full fare for 2 year olds now as they have to have a seat. I've just paid a similar amount to book a flight to the other end of the country for me and 2 dcs.

Shock

sounds about right.....I looked into flying up to Edinburgh (from London Luton) and it was going to cost more than the train, with a family railcard, and once I'd taken into account getting to the airport, hanging around for check-in and then getting from airport to where I was headin in the city was going to take nearly as long Hmm

(we took the train)

Yes, true about the seat. It just feels SOOOO much not even to go abroad, not that I want to go abroad actually, as will also have 6 week old newborn with us - don't have to pay for that one at least. Have just looked into train, but it is at least 3 changes, and can't quite face that with 3 DCs and all the luggage. Going to meet grandparents, otherwise would just pick a different location!

fly to bristol?

Fatimalovesbread · 01/02/2011 15:15

Fly bmi? My friend flew Newquay to Manchester for £20

wolfhound · 01/02/2011 15:20

planning to fly to newquay as that's where GPs will be to pick us up. Just looked at getting train to Bodmin. That would be £300+ (at spring prices, might be more for summer?) and a 7.5 hour journey (assuming no delays...)
we are very close to airport and small airports at both ends so that bit is not too bad. Will discuss with DH later. Think cheapest option would be driving, but seriously doubt that he will be up for that!

x-post with fatima - off to look at bmi now...

bmi is cheaper, and prob worth it despite 90 min drive to manchester. BUT no return flights left over our dates. Grrr!

No way would I pay 550 to fly to Cornwall.

Bishoplyn · 03/02/2011 22:30

Last time I flew from Newquay Airport had to pay £5- a development fee apparently....Confused

wolfhound · 04/02/2011 08:41

They still have that development fee Bishoplyn, though I think the development is long finished! Doubt it will ever disappear...

Thinking about driving now. Though think it would be too cruel on the DCs to do an 8 hour drive (if we're lucky) in one go, so would involve staying somewhere en route both ways which will prob end up quite expensive too.
