Stockholm in winter

Does anyone have experience of Swedish winter? Are the shorter hours of daylight very inhibiting to enjoyment of scenery or activities? DD with obsession for Girl With Dragon Tattoo and Wallander is hankering after a Swedish holidy. Summer or winter?

winter is freezing freezing and very snowy. I used to go to sweden a lot for business and eventually refused to go in dec and jan because I never knew if I'd be able to get home again - flights cancelled etc.

I'd go in the summer!
