ok, have just booked:

1 week in an apartment right on the beach in a bay in hvar.

1 week in a harbour town apartment on brac island, with harbour view.

return flights to Split from gatwick, in august, for 4 people.

Total cost? £1600.

Pretty good, eh??

Noonar - tell us more! Just looking at holidays for this summer and it's SOOOO expensive!

jamaisjedors · 05/02/2011 17:21

Lucky you!

I spent hours last week contacting places in Croatia and looking up flights etc.

Now DH wants to go to the Vendée to see family instead.

You will have a great time!

CointreauVersial · 05/02/2011 19:22

C'mon Noonar - more details please!

LovelyJudy · 06/02/2011 17:50

catinthehat2 · 06/02/2011 18:00

OK,OK you've included transfers for 4 @ £7.50 return, I know.

CointreauVersial · 06/02/2011 18:45

OP - we're on the edges of our tenterhooks here.....

noonar · 10/02/2011 19:04

hi they folks, thanks for you (belated)enthusiasm for my thread Grin

there is no catch, honestly.

ok, they hvar apartment is one of the privately owned ones on the hvar tourist info website website (hvarinfo.com) on their accomm drop down menu, they have an option 'hvar bays' . click on that and you'll see dozens of basic but adequate beachfront properties to let very cheaply. mine is a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom property with terrace and balcony right on the beach. about 650 euros for the week. you can book online. its totally secure and they promise to confirm within 24 hours. decor in many of these properties is eastern block circa 1970, but we're going for the view!

the second place is just a privately owned apartment in milna, brac through owners abroad. this was about £450 for the week. again 2 bedrooms.

the flights were £550 for 4 of us, easyjet LGW to split- in august. simple ferry transfer, but not
included. the trick is to find somewhere where they accept mid week arrivals, as this keeps flight costs down.

hope thats useful for somebody!

thank you. i want to copy. have you been before? do you think renting a car is a good idea?

noonar · 11/02/2011 09:37

we chose the split -hvar- brac combination to avoid having to hire a car. the transfers are apparently cheap, short and straight forward. (did some research on tripadvisor forum.)

the brac apartment is in the heart of the old town, so no car needed. that why we chose it.

but... once we've got the ferry to hvar, we will possibly hire a car as most of the hvar bay accomm is pretty remote- thats part of the appeal. having said that, my accomm has a grocery shop close by.

so... i'm looking at possibly one week's car hire on top of the other costs, if, when i look into further, the buses seem too few and far between.

not been, but as i said, have done my homework Smile

Thank you. i'm seriously considering booking the flights and then making up the accom after.. wish i wasn't such a nervous flier...

noonar · 13/02/2011 09:26

judy, if you do that, do be careful as the vast majority of accomm will only do saturday changeovers in peak season, which means much more exp flights. when we booked, last month, we got flights for £116 each as opposed to about £200 for a saturday flight. they do go up massively as they get booked up , so it is a good idea to book now.

where abouts are you looking at staying?
