Start off by saying how much you spend.

How longs a piece of string?

This is like how much your house is worth, or how often do you buy a new car. Not into this, but I do know people who spend anything form £550 for a week in a Haven caravan and those who spend around £15 thousand long haul for 2 weeks for a family of 4. It's how you enjoy yourself which counts.

Depends where you want to go?

How many people in the party?

What time of year?

Type of accommodation?

Type of board?

We go selfcatering in this country
use cottages4you
usually btw 300 - 400 depending where

mumoverseas · 26/01/2011 14:59

DH reckons that a holiday to the Maldives a few years ago for my 'big' birthday cost about the same as our new Dodge Durrango had cost Shock

As others have wisely said, it really depends on whether you are camping or going all inclusive to the Caribbean!

Hulababy · 26/01/2011 15:02

It depends on where, when, how many, etc.

We have just booked a fortnight to Florida for me, DH, 8y DD and my parents. It is in school holidays. Flights for 5 and villa is costing £4500 roughly. That was the cheapest we could get it. Tickets will be approx £400 per person and we have car hire on top too.

We are also looking at a week away with friends at Easter. Looking at about £200-£300 per family for a cottage in the UK, for 7.

uggmum · 26/01/2011 15:09

In May we are self catering on the Isle of Wight (school hols) it is costing £400 for a 2 bed apartment. The ferry is £90.

In August we are going to the South of france (nr St Tropez) for 2 weeks. We have booked a 3 bed house in a gated domain with a shared pool for £1350 pw. Car hire is probably about £500 and direct train from London (Eurostar, 1st class) is £850.

Guildenstern · 26/01/2011 15:23

We go camping. It costs about £120 a week at most.

Plus about £350 a week to eat out because it's raining, and buy wine so we can be warm enough at night to sleep. :)

PatriciaHolm · 26/01/2011 16:48

You're going to get answers ranging from £100 for camping to £10k+ for long haul luxury. You need to be a bit more specific!

Bunbaker · 26/01/2011 16:52

Abroad for the three of us - about £1500, a cottage in the UK anything between £300 and £600 depending on the time of year.

We once went on a budget holiday - never again. It was so awful that we decided that if we couldn't afford to stay somewhere nice we would just stay at home. We also don't like crowds, loathe places like Blackpool, Benidorm etc and avoid all inclusive holidays like the plague. Snob? Moi? Undoubtedly.

naughtymummy · 26/01/2011 16:56

Just taken 4 of us skiing for 2500 including child care, lift passes, ski lesson, ski hire and food v.v smug Grin

Changeisagoodthing · 26/01/2011 16:59

I am more in the 13k for 17 days long haul but also do 350 for Cornwall cottage.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/01/2011 17:34

I budget the money saved from the two months break in council tax ie. £400 for a week self catering including diesel costs in Europe in August. Tesco kindly fund the Eurotunnel crossing.

sillymummy72 · 30/01/2011 20:50

We do Florida for around £4500 ( plus spending money) we go at Xmas every year. Our summer holiday this year will be around £5000 - Disney Cruise ( are you seeing a theme yet? My name is sillymummy and I am a disneyaholic....:))

selby · 31/01/2011 15:29

We normally take our 'luxury' holiday at summer half term because it's so much cheaper than Aug prices - so short haul Med for 1 week. 2 adults and 2 children - 2 bed suite HB with DIY budget flights and car hire for £2.5K. Easter - it's budget flights to France plus a S/C French gite (with childcare + catering as extra options so paying a premium for this) + car hire is about £1.6K. Cheaper if drove our own car but couldn't face the drive to Dover plus a 10+hr drive from Calais plus if we got our act together to book earlier than today for cheaper flights! August - we're looking for a last minute bargain deal so won't be picky on this one. We did go to Duinrell last year for 4 nts for a bargainous £200 as a last minute deal so it can be done.
