Ideas for cheap SE weekend away

My bf and I are both single parents and amazingly we both have a whole weekend (well, 10am Sat-5pm Sun) free soon! We really want to make the most of it and are thinking of going away for the night, staying in a dead cheap but halfway decent hotel/guesthouse somewhere reasonably near to where we live (Oxfordshire/hampshire)that is pretty and relaxing and has sometihing interesting to see and do!

Only problem is we don't really know where to go ... we're thinking maybe Chichester or somewhere down that way, but neither of us have been or know the area at all.

Any ideas?

Should have said, our budget probably doesn't stretch much further than £50/60 for a room ... and breakfast as well if we can manage it!

Sapphire, I havent been, but hear this place is really good. The Swan Inn at Fittleworth, a 14th Century coaching inn, beams, barns, etc!

Pub garden won 'pub garden of the year' for last 4 yrs. It is 8 miles from Arundel (v. nice, castle) and Chichester 15 miles. Lovely walks, little villages etc nearby.

Laterooms, do good deals, either book through them, or phone the Inn and see if they will match it. For this Saturday I have just looked and they have £60 for an ensuite, 4 poster bed £75, or £75 for ensuite in the converted barn with beams and overlooking garden.
