Can anyone recommend an overnight stop on way to Dordogne in August?

We need a room to sleep 2 adults and 3 children aged 1, 6 and 7 and were thinking of the Chatearoux area (although open to alternative suggestions). We will be driving from Le Harve. Thank you!

We go down to Poitou Charentes and always stay at the Hotel Novotel Rouen Sud - they have family rooms, a outdoor heated swimming pool and a lovely playground set in the woods - the kids love to have a really good run around after being in the car so long. Plus it is right by the motorway so you don't have to make a big detour.

If you would prefer a B&B then its worth looking at www.sawdays.co.uk.

We stayed at a great B&B in the Loire last year en route to Dordogne Gaucherie. We had a set of rooms to ourselves.

There are plenty of animals for the children to befriend, a pool to splash around in, several other families with children also stopping over and a wonderful meal with plenty of alcohol. Be warned that the meal is quite late by UK standards (around 8.30/7.30 UK time) so you may need to give your children a snack at their normal mealtime.

We stayed here en route to Charente last year.. www.lalunelake.co.uk. It was fab, gardens with splash pool, dinner and breakfast was lovely.. and carafes of wine!! A fab way to end a days driving,

Would recommend. The owners are so welcoming.
