It is a nice small market town, on the edge of the New Forest. About half an hour by car from Bournemouth and Southampton, a bit further from Salisbury. It does have a Waitrose and lots of other shops too - excellent market every week. It has always felt to me (I used to live in a nearby village, not in Ringwood itself) quite an "older persons" town. That said, dh and I have been talking about leaving the bright(ish) lights of Poole, and heading in that direction.

I wemt to school there, lived out on the common at the end of Ringwood. I spent many happy days in the New Forrest on my bike with friends, gone all day long at the age of 8, and no one worried about us as long as we were home by dark!

Thanks ladies - sounds like the in-laws will fit right in with the 'oldie' set then! Although they are more your Lidl type of people ... I'm moving myself to Bournemouth from London (whenever the housing market decides to kick itself up the backside) and Ringwood is about as close as I would like them without it feeling like they are right on my doorstep. Not that we don't get on, but you know what I mean ...
