I am really sick of booking Hotels that advertise Wifi, and then I get to my room and find the wifi isn't right. Usually it flickers on a couple of times and then I waste the rest of the night faffing trying to get connection and asking them in reception to restart their thingy.

Anyone else get this ?

Is there anything I can do ?

I travel a lot and get wound up by this. Mainly because of the charges not the actually service -have you got a vpn firewall because it is a work pc as this often creates problems. Currently in Capetown with free wifi at a fantastic guesthouse (5* hotels take note -you are ripping us off) with no probs.

It is included in the hotel bill, but I book the room because it has wifi, I need it for my work Angry

Probably the wifi service then. PCs these days recognise the wifi signal and if it is unsecured or via a hotel firewall it should be ok -you are posting so figure you must be online so it is working?
You often have to launch your browser, try any website which the defaults to the hotel log in page (room and name) and then it is ok.

Agree - had this last week in a SkiBeat Chalet they merrily advertise this without checking that it actually works - doubt the would advertise otehr facilities that don't exist...

Oh yes this utterly winds me up. Why on earth dont hotels understand that travellers need communication that works? Dont the people that work in them have broadband themselves?

Booked a hotel last year that specifically stated it had broadband and got there to find it was actually only available to people who were using conference facilities.

Dont even get me started on hotels that charge extra to allow access to broadband.

The other thing is 4/5 star hotels that dont have satelitte TV. For goodness sake, I have it at home. Its not even considered a luxury anymore.

I also hate it when you get there, and its wifi in the lobby only, and not in your room. Tempted to curl up on the floor of the lobby in pyjamas Mumsnetting away.
