Hi

Am planning a long weekend with kids to Venice and wondered if anyone had stayed in a good central hotel they might recommend? Also, do you think early June will be ok or will be too hot/busy by then?

Thanks so much!

I stayed in the absolutely brilliant [http://www.cortegrimani.com/ Corte Grimani] a couple of years ago with my mother for her birthday -- no kids (I'm pregnant with my first) but we both commented at the time that it would be good with a family.

It's an apartment hotel -- the room we stayed in had a kitchenette in the sitting room, which had a sofa bed, dining table and TV as well. The bathroom was huge, as was the main bedroom. I particularly like having a fridge and crockery so you don't have to eat out every meal, particularly for breakfast.

There's a good little deli/grocery store (milk, bread, other basics) around the corner.

The location's fantastic -- around a five minute walk from St Mark's Square and only a little further from the Rialto. We had a canal view which was special.

I've stayed other places in Venice for around the same price that were in much less convenient locations.

I've not been in June, but when I was there in September it was absolutely lovely. I think you get the big crowds of tourists in July/August.

I went in May and it was fab weather, and not busy- June should be the same, but that time of the year weather can change daily!!
We stayed at the Hotel Bower, central and classy but depends what price bracket you looking at!
Your DDs will love it- make sure you get the boat to the surrounding islands, and go to the Lido.

My DP has a beautiful spacious 2 bedroom apartment in Venice , on Guidecca. You can rent this is you wish. The web site is www.veniceviews.co.uk
Its very near and convenient for the main central part of Venice and the site seeing locations.
June will probably be not too hot, , ,but you just dont know. . bit like here, June can be cool or very warm.!

Oh that sounds good, thank you. I had actually just contacted Venice Views as I found them on trip advisor. Which apartment is it?
The one called Ca Guidecca is not suitable for children under 12, so that wouldn't work for us.

The aprtment is in Calle Spini very near to the waterbus main drop off point in Guidecca. Its on the 3rd floor . Suitable for any child over the age of 3 that can walk upstairs.

I just heard from Venice Views that they won't do a 3 day rental at the time I want to go, beginning of June, so that won't work. Thanks so much for your suggestion though.

Jealous, DH proposed to me in Venice. We stayed in a one bed studio apartment found on the internet, close to St Marks. We chose it as it was cheap, it was not very impressive, but decided we would have our luxury accommodation outside of Venice.

We got cheap flights with Ryanair to Treviso airport, and had our first night at this hotel:

www.hotel-villacondulmer.it/index.php?id=1&lang_id=eng

We then had two nights in our apartment in Venice.

Villa Condulmer, really was the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. It would have cost the earth in Venice, but being outside was quite affordable. Venice is so busy and expensive, it is quite easy to stay somewhere just outside Venice and get a train in. I was quite glad we split the holiday up.
