Thinking of booking short get away for me and DH ; children staying behind (though they are kicking up fuss!!)
It will be end of May- that would be less cruel for them!!
It will be half term so I would fill their days up with activities..

Has anyone been? Any recommendations or no-no's re accomodation?

Is Old City nice? Any advice would be great?

Its either that or Corsica or Sardinia, am stuck!!

DH and I went a couple of years ago - it was absolutely beautiful. The Old City is great, and very small so easily walked around. Lots of great restaurants - but no international chains, so no McDonalds, Starbucks, etc. Not even the seemingly ubiquitous Chinese/Indian restaurants - just a focus on local cuisine.

It's not cheap - they have taken a clear decision to keep prices higher, presumably to deter the hen/stag parties.

There are no hotels in the Old City (I don't think), but there is a Hilton just outside the city walls. We stayed at the Dubrovnik Palace , which was lovely (but a bit pricey!). Fabulous setting just on the water, and with a lovely swimming pool surrounded by fab terrace/bar. The hotel runs a shuttle bus in/out of the city centre.

We went in May too, and it was really hot - around 30 degrees every day - although apparently that was hotter than it usually is at that time of the year.

Thanks - thats helpful..
And I am glad there are no hen/stag parties..

Does it feel safe wondering around? Will check the hotel on the web..

It's fabulous. Can recommend cathedral view apartment in heart of old town. Owners also have a smaller one in same building, right by cathedral. I think the website is saraca apartments. We stayed in cathedral view and it was wonderful. There are only 2 hotels actually in old town, but lots of good looking places just to the south (do I mean east?). Can't remember names of hotels in old town. They are chi-chi boutiquey places. You can take lovely boat trips from the old port to eg lokrum and lapad islands.

OH!!Am getting excited now.. Boat trips would be brilliant..
Thanks for the advice, checked the Hilton and its very near old town, will check also apartment- just hope they are not booked on a weekly basis as we'll go prob for 4 or 5 nights (kids starting revolution at the mere mention of us having holiday alone!!)
