CROATIA ...holiday ideas needed, please.

I know nothing about Croatia at all, but would like to go there this summer.

We have dds aged 7 and 9 and would like to book a holiday in a scenic area, close to a beach, with some character/ history, with a short airport transfer (as we wont have a car). Oh yes, and the location needs to be near an airport served by a budget airline that flies from London. We are on a tight budget, by the way.

Balkan Holidays have some good deals, but I have no idea which resorts to go for/ avoid (I dont want to end up in the Croatian equivalent of Benidorm!)

I' ve heard Hvar is nice...

If I was going to book a flight then try to find accommodation independently afterwards, which airport might be a good choice for cheap flights and plentiful accommodation near by?

Any suggestions gratefully received

bump.

can anyone suggest a 2 centre holiday with a week in hvar and a week somewhere else?

think i'll book independently...

shall i just book flights to split while theyre cheap and book apartment accommodation over next few weeks

also, is croatia expensive when you get there? is it in the euro zone Blush??

Went to Brac and it was wonderful, lots of self catering accommodation there. Eating out was reasonable but certainly not cheap!

thanks. i think brac would be easiest in terms of transfers from split. will take a closer look...

i like the ides of a two centre, but wonder if with 2dc a single base might be easier.

if we stayed in brac, would trips to other islands and mainland be feasible?

Hi Tia,

Stumbled across your post and would love to offer you some recommendations...

Hvar Island is a great choice, I noticed that you're not keen on hiring a car, so the best option will be Hvar Town where a car is not required.

As a suggestion, the following property is suitable for up to 4 people, is within walking distance to local amenities and the beach - great for your kids.
Property code: HV018

Alternately, in Hvar Island you can also consider the following in Jelsa; it's within walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants:

If you are looking to do a multi-centre trip and stay in two areas, my recommendation would be to combine your stay in Hvar with a second week stay in the Trogir area, such as Property: TG005 www.croatianvillas.com/accommodation/Croatia-Apartment-Trogir-TG005 it offers access to a pool and again is near to the sea:

It is worth noting that with multi-centre trips you would really benefit from having a car to take in all the sights that the regions have to offer. A car would be required if you stayed at this Trogir property. Perhaps you could just hire a car for your second week?

Prices are displayed on our website at the bottom of each villa page.

If you need any further information on regions, flights or accommodation, please do not hesitate to contact us, we're on hand to offer advice and suggestions.

Whatever you decide, have a lovely holiday! Croatia will not disappoint!

Hvar is fabulous. You can fly to split, then short bus or taxi into town. Ferries and catamarans go from riva in middle of town. You can take a fast cat to hvar town and stay somewhere nearby. It really is lovely. Alternatively, you could take ferry to stari grad then short taxi ti jetsa which is whiter than hvar town. Not that hvar towns too touristy - it's popular with yachting types and is very chic! You can also take a ferry from stari grad to Dubrovnik, which is a lovely trip along the coast, although it does take a few hours. Dubrivniks also a fabulous base for a holiday. There are beaches near the town and you can take all sorts of wonderful boat trips to different islands, kayak trips, water sports, all sorts. Our DCs are same age as yours and we did a week on hvar then a week in Dubrovnik. All loved it.

I meant to say that jelsa is QUIETER than hvar town!
