Help me plan a surprise trip to Germany

I could do with some help planning a surprise for my DH's 25th next December.

He's mentioned a few times that he wants to visit Germany, and as we never got a chance for a honeymoon I want to give him a birthday to remember.

Having never been to Germany though, I need a little bit of help.

It'll also have to be done on a bit of a shoe string budget Confused

So where would you go and what would you do?

Have you thought about combining it with a visit to a Christmas Market?

I've been to the one at Cologne and it was wonderful. Don't think it's very cheap though.

Germany is a beautiful but very large country so you might have to check out which part of it he'd prefer to visit.

What about cheap flights, depending on how flexible you can be? Or Eurostar(£59 return to Paris)then a more local train?

I would, but he hates Xmas Grin

I don't think he knows where he'd rather go, which is helpful. I know he is very interested in WWII stuff, so wondering if there is anywhere relevant to that he could visit (not sure how much stuff Germany keeps to do with WWII Confused)

Hi I have been to berlin before with 3 kids we all said it was one of our best hoildays. only reason I hav'nt been back is because there is no direct flights from both our local airports. The food was great the transport brillant and loads to see and the best zoo I've ever been to all very cheap but it was 5 years ago. Also very clean and loads of parks for kids.If dh in to WWII,he would love it,they cover any nazi flags, but there still alot of stuff from WWII,my ds loved having his picture taken on the steps of the reichstag.I no easyjet and ryanair do cheap flights there and you can get cheap hotels just look on trip adviser before you book, the one time I did'nt I ended up with bongo drums going all night.Hope this helps a bit.
