But where to go? My mum says she will look after the kids for dh and me in January for about 5 days (maybe even a week). We've had a tough year, like so many people, with business worries, money worries etc and she reckons we need a break.

I would love some winter sun. We are fairly skint (see above) so it can't be too expensive. I really don't want to book somewhere and end up above a karaoke bar in Tenerife so can you recommend anywhere peaceful, cheap but nice, not long haul to fly and with a mix of relaxing and cultural/intersting stuff to do too?
