Looking through the 2006 brochures as will get 20% off if book by 1 Nov (even on Summer hols dates!). Lacanou looks nice, anyone been? If so, what route did you drive & did you need an overnight stop?

Yes - we went to Caen and drove down from there and did it in one day!

It is lovely and some nice places to visit close by!

Ocean is quite rough there though - so need to be careful with the little ones!

Thanks, we were hoping the Caen crossing was doable in a day! Our family love the rough sea! We have been to Gascony a few times & it's great fun, just retreat to a lake when you want the calm.

Did you go to a campsite? If so, which one & who with? (We are looking at Matthews hols as soooo cheap!)

Thanks, we have been to The Dune de Pyla (when staying further south). Kids likes the Aqualand there.

How long did the drive take? Did you get the overnight crossing?

Ooh, I wish I was there now! We love France. Just debating if we would rather drive 2 days & get to the Med or have another holiday in the wild Atlantic.

Think DD would like an aeroplane to anywhere TBH!

I've been looking at this site for next year too Milliways. I think it was you who recommended Matthews Holidays to me for this year's holiday, and I am so, so grateful that you did, as I booked a caravan cheaper than a tent with Canvas. It got quite cold at night so I was so pleased to be in a caravan. The caravan was great and we'd definitely go with Matthews again. Dh and I are even thinking about becoming Matthews reps when dd goes to university! Ours didn't appear to do much other than go collecting mussels and eating crepes!!

Hee Hee, We only saw our reps on their night off - they came to collect our BBQ rental money so they could go out! Still, the van was v.good value for money.

My DD is now thinking Lacanou will be too rough (we have spent 2 years in Gascony before) so I am costing up holidays in the Med at La Sirene, which looks a lovely site.

We went to Les Genets this year. Pools are very warm & DEFFO BRILL for kids (rapids etc).
