flying from Gatwick

We're looking to fly from Gatwick to Estonia with our 4-month-old daughter next week. The plan is to take the carseat and wheels through security and give them to the airline to put in the cargo hold for the duration of the flight. Unfortunately neither the airline nor the airport can confirm that this is possible. Both say that they think "it should be doable". Therefore I would appreciate comments from people who have flown from Gatwick with their infants. Have you had any problems with security? Have you got any tips on how to make the flight less painful for everyone?

I haven't flown from gatwick with a pushchair but i have seen people with them when past security.

I think it really depends on the airline and it sounds a bit daft that they can't tell you. Have you looked at their website, surely it will say there?

I have flown from Gatwick several times with a large pram/pushchair and sometimes a car seat and they will normally take it from you at the gate and put it in the hold. You cannot however guarantee you will get it at the door of the plane on your arrival, they often come out with the suitcases.

If I were you I'd take a sling for your baby so that you will have that just in case you are not allowed to take the pram to the gate or don't get it returned immediately that you leave the aircraft.
