New York Hotel for Jan

myproblemblob · 27/11/2010 18:00

We are off to New York on the 8th of Jan for my 30th Birthday.
I am already prepared for a full on frozen experience as I've heard I will need many many layers

We haven't booked our hotel yet as I've heard it is really off peak for this time of year so bargains galore!

We have found 3 nights at a hotel on 10th ave for 338.22 USD including taxes etc

Do you think that's a good price and is it a good location?

Will be child free yay! so looking for a few bars to try as well as the shopping of course so if you could suggest location that would be great
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a good price. 10th Ave at 49th is not too bad either.

The island of Manhattan is vast. The distance between blocks (i.e walking north/south) are short but the distance between the avenues (walking east/west) is far greater. If you need to walk to a metro station or are carrying lots of shopping that needs to be borne in mind.

Read up on NYC before you arrive and buy some decent guide books beforehand. Time Out do a good such book and there are plenty of others.

Macys is well worth a visit on 34th Street as is Bloomingdales on Lexington and 59th.
Another place worth a visit is a tour of the Radio City Music Hall on 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas).

Subway can be confusing to navigate; just take your time and work out the route you need beforehand. There are both express and local trains on their subway.

Don't forget to fill in the ESTA online asap for all of you if you have not already done so (ESTA is mandatory for passengers entering the US).

I filled out the ESTA when I heard they were about to charge so luckily we have missed the $14 fee this time.

I think we will go for it, the reviews on trip advisor for the price are not bad and I would rather have extra pennies for the sales than a bigger room.

I've heard Macys are cheaper than Bloomingdales so will head there .

Thanks for your help
