Has anyone been to Egypt with young children?

We're going in March (partly to visit some friends who are teaching out there.)

Our children will be nearly four (dd) and 18 months (ds.)

We would like to find a resort to have a relaxing beach holiday for at least half the time. The rest will be in and around Cairo where our friends are.

Am just starting my research and thought I'd post here in case anyone had done an Egypt holiday with kids recently and could offer any top tips, particularly in terms of a good family friendly place to go for the beachy bit (as our friends will sort Cairo.)

Thanks

Hi, we went with my then 15month old dd, we went to the baron resort in sharm el sheikh which was fab, 20 min trasnfer time from airport, nice hotel, pool and most importantly private beach. HTH

I have been many timjes with DS, sinse he was a baby, but can't really offer any advice about beaches as we stay with friends who have a private beach house near Alexandria.

Be warned, if your children are blond, and you take them to the pyramids, they might be the main attraction among the locals - my DS was when he was 3, all the Egyptian children on school trips wanted to take photographs of him Grin

Thanks, that's helpful. Yes both blonde! Our friends mentioned Sharm - good to know you had a good time and to have a specific recommendation.

Sharm is great with the right hotel.. We have taken ours to the Ritz Calton twice and had a fab time. Really lovely hotel.. lovely house reef for snorkelling.. fantastic pools and breakfast. we ate out in the evenings.. totally recommend.
