Taking back carrier on plane

We are planning on taking a back carrier on holiday with us at the weekend. Anyone done this and what did you do on the plane ? Just stick it in the hold as it is or take it as hand luggage ?

Took it as hand luggage. ds could sit in it while we ate when we flew at around 12 months as we had bulkhead seats. Ours folded pretty flat and would otherwise fit in a locker.
