I have been on a Nile cruise. I was around 30 so a good age. If your children are going too, go for the beach. One temple and load of hyreglyphics (wrong spelling) looks pretty much like another.
If you go to the beach, you can either fly or get a coach to the Nile.

Hmm good point

Mind you DD is 13 & fairly egypt mad - oh & boat mad too & there is a sailing boat trip on the cruise

Saying that kind of decides it doesn't it

Or do a beach holiday somewhere where she can sail too?

Nile Cruise. No contest. But you need to be careful about the ship/boat you choose.

With a 13 year old I would definitely go for a Nile cruise. I have been twice and loved it, at the moment my girls are too young but as soon as they are old enoughwe will be going again.

The one to go for if you've the budget is Sun King.(Abercrombie and Kent) The Oberoi boat that looks like a paddle steamer is very good. The Philae I think. There will be others but don't go on the cheap.

It is really inexpensive to hire your own guide who sails with you which is great for a family group. Often an Egyptologist complete with Phd. Went on one occasion with 10 yr old, 8 yr old, just 3 yr old and aged Ps. The Egyptian hospitality is fabulous and small kids do fine as they make them the centre of things.
