Abu Dhabi, what to wear?

Had very confusing info about this. My MIL lives there and says it is ok to wear vest tops and the like but then been on forums who say no vest tops and SIL who has visited extensively says rare to see people in vest tops or strappy tops etc, you will be started at etc.

Don't want to offend anyone. So what is the definitive dress code for out and about in Abu Dhabi please?

I think vest tops are not suitable unless you are on a beach. If you are going in a shopping mall etc, then I would stick to t-shirts/blouses with sleeves. Shorts I would also save for the beach.

If you are going out in the evening to a restaurant or a bar (they are all in hotels) then strappy tops are fine.

If you do wear vest tops you may get stared at, but it's more a case of respecting the values in the Middle East.

Thanks for replying. I totally want to adhere to local customs and just want to get it right.

Ok so no vest tops, hmm wonder where I can find nice t-shirts and short sleeve blouses here in England in November? Oh well sure will find something somewhere.

You may be better waiting until you get there to buy some tops. OTOH, when we lived in Oman I remember parka coats appearing in the shops around October time.

All the shops out there will have summer stuff in. You can pick up t-shirts etc in M&S, Debenhams etc. You'll pay a bit more then in the UK, but not that much.
